The STAR Program is proud to announce the exceptional outcome of our recent site visit conducted by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP): a rare and exemplary result of NO FINDINGS for our RWHAP Part C grant which funds medical care at STAR-Downstate. RWHAP has been a major funder since our inception in 1991, and provides millions in grants annually for STAR Program operations. This accomplishment highlights the high standards of care and rigorous operational processes consistently demonstrated by our dedicated team.
The RWHAP representatives conducted a 2-day, comprehensive evaluation that meticulously scrutinized our clinical, administrative, and fiscal practices, including documentation protocols, staff training, grants management, and patient care quality measures. Our team has worked diligently over the past 18 months to prepare for this extensive review. The positive outcome underscores our collective dedication and the thorough nature of our organizational practices.
Additionally, direct patient feedback significantly enriched the evaluation process. The 8 patients who participated in the review emphasized feeling heard, understood, and valued, validating the effectiveness and empathy embedded in our patient care model.
This recognition comes at a particularly poignant time, amidst challenges and uncertainty. It powerfully reinforces the critical importance of our mission and the daily efforts of each team member, from administrative support and patient coordination to clinical care.
Dr. Jessica Yager, Medical Director, stated, “I could not be more proud today to have such incredible recognition and validation for this team’s work. I am incredibly grateful to you all—and, far more significantly, so are STAR patients.”
Dr. Jack DeHovitz, Director of the STAR Program, added, “This was a remarkable day, and I am very proud to lead such an exceptional program. Thanks to the incredible team who worked on this for so long.”
Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to all team members for making this exceptional achievement possible!
