In recognition of National HIV Testing Day, Brooklyn Sure, formerly PlaySure, hosted The Brooklyn Vibe Check outside SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University at 470 Clarkson Avenue — bringing neighbors, partners, and community members together for a day centered on wellness, connection, and care.
The event was designed to create a welcoming space where Brooklyn residents could check in with their mind, body, and soul while accessing real support in a positive and community-centered environment. Rather than focusing only on testing, the day highlighted the bigger picture of health: prevention, mental wellness, education, insurance access, career support, and connection to trusted local resources.
Throughout the day, community members were able to receive health and mental health information, free HIV testing, mental health screenings, resume support, health insurance support, and education about PrEP, PEP, DoxyPEP, HIV prevention, STI care, and sexual wellness.
The event was strengthened by the support and participation of key community partners: STAR’s Brooklyn Sure, Back to Brooklyn (B2B), STAR Mental Health Team – SAMSHA Priority Populations Program, STAR Case Management, THEO — Teens Helping Each Other, The HEAT Program, CAMBA and Healthfirst.
Together, these partners helped create a meaningful day of outreach where people could ask questions, connect, receive screenings, learn about prevention options, and walk away with resources to support their health and well-being.
The event also made space for joy. Our interactive photobooth gave attendees a chance to take home a souvenir, capture the moment, and preserve memories from a beautiful day of Brooklyn community care.
We are grateful to everyone who came through, got tested, got screened, learned something new, connected with resources, and shared their energy with us.
Thank you, Brooklyn, for showing up with openness, joy, and community spirit.
This is what care looks like.
This is what connection feels like.
This is how we stay Brooklyn Sure.
