A Legacy of Leadership, Love, and Lifelong Impact

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Christine Rucker, MPA, a visionary leader, beloved colleague, and cherished member of the STAR family, who passed away this weekend.

Christine was more than a leader. She was a guiding force, a mentor, and a source of unwavering compassion whose work transformed the lives of countless individuals across our communities.

As the Director and Co-Founder of THEO (Teens Helping Each Other), and a cornerstone of the STAR Program, Christine dedicated her life to uplifting others. Through her leadership, she empowered generations of young people to find their voice, embrace their worth, and take control of their futures. Her work was rooted not only in expertise, but in deep humanity, empathy, and an unshakable belief in the potential of every person she encountered.

Her influence is woven into the very fabric of the STAR Program. From community outreach and youth development to HIV prevention, mental health advocacy, and health equity, Christine’s vision helped shape initiatives that continue to reach and serve thousands today.  

Christine led with heart. She listened. She showed up. She believed in people when they needed it most. And because of that, she built not just programs, but lasting relationships and a community grounded in care, dignity, and respect.

To those who had the privilege of knowing her, Christine was family. Her warmth, her wisdom, and her ability to inspire will never be forgotten. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every young leader she mentored, and every program she helped build.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the many individuals whose lives were forever changed by her presence.
