The Brooklyn Association of Teen Educators Network (BATES) is a long-standing network of adolescent peer educators, peer leaders, and youth-serving organizations committed to improving the health and well-being of young people across New York City. Founded in 1992 by Christine Rucker, BATES brings together community-based peer leadership programs to address HIV prevention, health equity, and youth development through collaboration and shared learning.

BATES is led by the Adolescent Education Program (AEP), a program of the Special Treatment and Research (STAR) Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Through this leadership, the network fosters partnerships among Brooklyn-based youth programs and supports pathways for young people to explore careers in public health, science, education, and clinical fields.
